La Fontaine Park, known as Parc La Fontaine in French, is one of Montreal's most cherished urban parks. Located in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, the park spans approximately 34 hectares (84 acres) and offers a lush green oasis in the heart of the city. Named after the French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine, the park has a rich history and serves as a hub for recreation, relaxation, and cultural activities.

Originally established in 1874, the park has undergone several transformations over the years. It features two large ponds connected by a waterfall, which become an ice-skating rink in the winter. These water features, along with the mature trees and expansive lawns, create a picturesque and tranquil environment for visitors.

La Fontaine Park is designed to cater to a wide range of activities. It includes numerous walking and cycling paths, making it a popular spot for jogging, leisurely strolls, and bike rides. The park is also equipped with sports facilities, including tennis courts, pétanque pitches, and fields for soccer and other sports. For children, there are multiple playgrounds offering safe and fun areas to play.

One of the park's cultural highlights is the Théâtre de Verdure, an open-air amphitheater that hosts various performances, including concerts, plays, and dance shows, particularly during the summer months. This venue contributes to the park's reputation as a center for community and cultural events.

Picnic areas and BBQ facilities are available, making the park a favorite location for family gatherings and social outings. Additionally, La Fontaine Park is home to several cafes and the historic Espace La Fontaine, a cultural venue and bistro that provides a space for exhibitions and community activities.

In the winter, the park transforms into a snowy wonderland, attracting visitors for ice skating on the ponds, sledding, and cross-country skiing. The seasonal changes ensure that La Fontaine Park remains a vibrant and lively destination throughout the year.
