Mac the Moose

450 Diefenbaker Dr, Moose Jaw, SK S6J 1N2, Canada

Standing proudly beside the Trans-Canada Highway in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Mac the Moose is one of Canada’s most beloved roadside attractions. Towering at over 10 meters (32 feet) tall, this giant steel-and-concrete moose statue has become an iconic symbol of both the city and the spirit of the Canadian Prairies. Whether you’re passing through or exploring Moose Jaw’s many attractions, Mac the Moose is a must-stop photo opportunity and a quirky piece of Canadian heritage.

Mac the Moose was built in 1984 by Saskatoon artist Don Foulds and dedicated to honor Moose Jaw’s tourism identity and community pride. Originally standing as the world’s tallest moose, Mac enjoyed decades of fame before a friendly rivalry emerged with Norway’s “Storelgen” (The Big Elk). In 2019, Moose Jaw residents and supporters launched the “Moose Wars” campaign to reclaim the title — and succeeded by giving Mac a new, larger set of antlers, officially making him once again the world’s tallest moose statue.

Visitors can walk up to the statue for a close-up view and capture memorable photos with this towering Prairie icon. The site also includes an interpretive display, information panels, and nearby picnic areas, making it a pleasant rest stop for travelers. Mac the Moose stands right beside the Moose Jaw Visitor Centre, where guests can learn more about local attractions, pick up maps, and get trip-planning assistance.
