The Canadian Badlands Passion Play
605 17th Street SW, Box 457, Drumheller, Alberta, Canada
The Canadian Badlands Passion Play is a passion play performed annually since 1994 in Drumheller, Alberta. The play is always held in the natural bowl amphitheatre, but each year brings a fresh perspective on the story as the script, production and cast changes from year to year.
The badlands have transformed into the Holy Land in the summer to tell the story of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. In a three hour play, the audience remains captivated as the story is brought to life from a scripture-based script with realistic sets and costumes, and superb performances by the actors.
The outdoor stage was chosen for its likeness to the hills found near Jerusalem, Israel, as well as the superb natural acoustics. It follows the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus found in the Gospels, told through drama and music, using nearly 300 performers. The play begins with the Baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, and ends with the Great Commission of the disciples. The play draws audience from across Alberta, Canada, and internationally.
The Canadian Badlands Passion Play on the outskirts of Drumheller has celebrated 19 years of sold-out success, recognized as one of the most authentic and popular biblical passion plays in the world.
