The Magnetic Hill Zoo is a 40-acre zoo located adjacent to Magnetic Hill and the Magic Mountain in the Magnetic Hill Area of Moncton, New Brunswick. It is committed to the well-being of the animals. The Magnetic Hill Zoo has a diverse collection of animals from every corner of the globe.
The Magnetic Hill Zoo is a member of Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums, Magnetic Hill Zoo houses approximately 625 animals, including 77 indigenous and exotic species. Birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, and fish find a comfortable and safe home in this 40-acre park.
The Magnetic Hill Zoo is the provincial headquarters for the Frog Watch program, an initiative of the Canadian Minister of Environment to gather environmental information on Canada's diverse frog species.
Eggs from abandoned nests from two maritime National Parks were brought to the Magnetic Hill Zoo for incubation and hatching. Once the hatchlings reached an appropriate weight, they were transported back to their original National Park for eventual release.
The Magnetic Hill Zoo has enjoyed a long standing relationship with Dalhousie/AC University. Several thesis projects have been conducted at the Zoo over the past 15 years.
Educational Programs: 1) Students from ages 5 to 13 can enroll in one of four, week long adventures where learning about the animals and the need for conservation is guaranteed to be fun and exciting. 2) Students from ages 14 to 18 can enroll in the Animal Care Apprenticeship Program where they will spend a week with the zoo keepers learning about the exotic and native species they will help care for.
Opening hours: The zoo is open from Victoria Day Weekend to Thanksgiving Weekend. seven days a week, from 9am until 7pm.
You may observe the daily animal feedings: Primates: 12:30 p.m. Tigers: 1:30 p.m. Otters: 2:30 p.m.
