W.L. SWEENEY FISHERIES MUSEUM

112 Water Street, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada

The W. L. Sweeney Fisheries Museum was created by his son and daughters to tell the story of the men and women of Laurence Sweeney Fisheries Limited.

The museum houses a collection of artifacts from companies owned by the late W. Laurence Sweeney. These objects provide a glimpse into the history of Yarmouth's fishing industry.

Visitors can experience the simulation of a traditional fishing wharf, complete with fishing, processing and ship repair sheds, wharf decks and even a coastal freighter.

About 90 per cent of the material used in the museum is authentic, carefully preserved during the deconstruction of the original Sweeney Fisheries buildings and carefully reassembled.

Hours of Operation :

  • Monday to Saturday: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (May 24th - October 6th, 2023)
