Pancake Bay Provincial Park – A Natural Treasure in Algoma Country, Ontario.
Pancake Bay Provincial Park is a beautiful place to enjoy nature in Algoma Country, Northern Ontario. It is located along the shores of Lake Superior, just off Highway 17, about 75 km north of Sault Ste. Marie. The park is well known for its long, sandy beach and clear blue waters, making it a great spot for swimming, picnics, and family fun. The park has more than 3 km of sandy beach with shallow water, perfect for kids and safe swimming. The beach is one of the nicest on Lake Superior and is often less crowded than other tourist spots. Many visitors also enjoy canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding in the calm waters near the shore.
For those who love hiking, Pancake Bay has two scenic trails. The Lookout Trail offers amazing views of Lake Superior and the nearby forests. On clear days, you can even see the spot where the famous ship, SS Edmund Fitzgerald, sank in 1975. The Nature Trail is shorter and ideal for a peaceful walk among trees and wildlife.
The park is also great for camping. It has several campgrounds with both electrical and non-electrical sites. Some campsites are close to the beach, so you can wake up to the sound of waves. Pancake Bay is open from spring to fall, and it’s a popular destination for both locals and tourists.
Wildlife is easy to spot in the park. You may see deer, foxes, birds, and even moose if you're lucky. It’s a perfect place to relax, enjoy fresh air, and explore the natural beauty of Ontario.
