Agnes Etherington Art Centre: A Place for Art and Culture.

The Agnes Etherington Art Centre is a well-known art museum located on the campus of Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. It is often called “The Agnes.” The centre is named after Agnes Etherington, a local art lover and supporter of the arts, who donated her home and encouraged the creation of a public gallery.

The art centre opened in 1957 and has grown over the years. It now houses more than 17,000 works of art. The collection includes Canadian, Indigenous, European, and African art. One of its highlights is a group of paintings by famous Dutch artist Rembrandt and his students, which is rare in Canada.

The Agnes Etherington Art Centre offers changing exhibitions throughout the year. These shows feature both historical and modern art. Many Canadian and international artists have displayed their work here. The centre also supports young and emerging artists.

The building itself is a mix of old and new. Part of it is Agnes Etherington’s original house, and the rest has been expanded to include modern galleries and spaces for events and learning.

The Agnes Etherington Art Centre is open to everyone and has free admission. It is a great place to explore art, culture, and history in Kingston.
