The Museum of Civilization was founded in 1984 and opened to the public in 1988. It was initially called the Museum of French America and focused primarily on the history and culture of French-speaking North America. Over the years, the museum expanded its scope and collections, and in 2003, it was renamed the Museum of Civilization to reflect its broader focus on civilizations from around the world.

Then and Now," which explores the history and culture of Quebec from the First Nations to modern times, "This Is Our Story," which examines the experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada, "Egypt: The Gift of the Nile," which delves into the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt, and "Becoming Canadian," which explores the immigration and integration of newcomers to Canada.
